Early Life
Dr. Helena Jaklitsch was born on July 1, 1977, in Novo Mesto, Yugoslavia (SFRY).
Education
Dr. Jaklitsch pursued her higher education at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts. In 2002, she earned a Bachelor's degree. In 2009, she obtained a Master's degree in history. Her doctoral dissertation, completed in 2016, focused on Slovenian schools in refugee camps in Austria and Italy during the period 1945-1950.
Career in Public Service
From 2004 to 2015, Dr. Jaklitsch held various positions within the Ministry of Justice. Notably, in 2008, while Slovenia held the EU Presidency, she led the project team responsible for operational management of logistical preparations for ministerial events.
Following her tenure in the Ministry of Justice, Dr. Jaklitsch transitioned to the Ministry of Culture in 2014.
Minister of State for Slovenians Abroad
On March 13, 2020, Dr. Jaklitsch was appointed Minister of State for Slovenians Abroad in the third Janša government, led by Prime Minister Janez Janša. In this role, she is responsible for maintaining relations with the Slovenian diaspora worldwide. She succeeded Peter Jožef Česnik in this position.
