Early Involvement and Political Career
Wilhelm Kube joined the Nazi Party (NSDAP) in 1928 and became a member of the Reichstag in 1933. He also achieved the rank of SA-Brigadeführer (Brigadier General) within the Sturmabteilung (SA), a paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party.
Königsberg Incident and Flight to Italy
Kube played a role in an attempted Nazi uprising in Königsberg on August 1, 1932. Following the failed coup, he was forced to flee to Italy, remaining there until March 1933.
Leadership of SA Brigades
Upon his return to Germany, Kube was appointed leader of the SA brigade in Masuren (1933-34) and Stettin (1934-35).
Night of the Long Knives and Protection
During the Night of the Long Knives in June 1934, Kube was spared execution thanks to the intervention of Erich Koch, to whom he remained loyal.
Military Service and Post in Ukraine
Kube became an officer in the Wehrmacht in 1937. From 1941 to 1942, he served as Generalkommissar (General Commissioner) of the Kiev district in the Reichskommissariat Ukraine.
Involvement in Atrocities
Under Kube's authority in Kiev, the mass murder of Jews at Babi Yar was organized. He also oversaw the deportation of thousands of Ukrainians to Germany for forced labor.
