Early Career
Henri Camara is a Senegalese footballer who played as a striker for several clubs throughout his career. He began his professional career in 1996 with Diaraf, a Senegalese top-flight club. After two years with Diaraf, he moved to French club Strasbourg in 1998, but was unable to break into the first team and only played for the reserves.
Switzerland and France
In July 1999, Camara joined Swiss club Xamax. He spent the 1999/2000 season with Xamax, helping them finish 7th in the league. In January 2001, he moved to Grasshoppers after Xamax failed to qualify for the championship group. At Grasshoppers, he played for six months and won the Swiss Super League title.
Premier League Debut
In July 2001, Camara joined French club Sedan as a free agent. He quickly established himself as a regular starter and scored 8 goals in 25 appearances during the 2001/02 season. Sedan finished 14th in the French league that season. In the 2002/03 season, Camara scored 14 goals in 34 appearances and helped Sedan avoid relegation.
England and Scotland
In July 2003, Camara moved to English club Wolverhampton Wanderers for £1.5 million. He played a key role in Wolves' promotion to the Premier League, scoring 4 goals in 16 appearances. In the 2003/04 season, he was Wolves' top goalscorer with 5 goals in 32 appearances, but the club was relegated back to the Championship.
In July 2004, Camara was loaned to Scottish club Celtic for six months. He played in all six group stage matches of the Champions League for Celtic. After returning to Wolves in January 2005, he was loaned to Southampton for three months.
Wigan Athletic and West Ham United
In August 2005, Camara joined Wigan Athletic for £3 million. He made 29 appearances and scored 12 goals for Wigan in the Premier League, helping them finish 10th in the 2005/06 season. In the following season, he made 23 appearances and scored 6 goals.
In August 2007, Camara was loaned to West Ham United for a year. He made 10 appearances for West Ham during that season.
Late Career
In February 2009, Camara joined Stoke City on loan for six months. He made 17 appearances and scored 2 goals for Stoke. In the 2009/10 season, he played for Sheffield United in the Championship, making 23 appearances and scoring 4 goals.
International Career
Camara made his debut for the Senegalese national team in 1999 and is the team's record appearance holder and goalscorer. He played in the 2002 World Cup, helping Senegal reach the quarter-finals. He also played in the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, with Senegal finishing 4th in 2006.
