Early Life and EducationFrench naturalist earned a doctorate in medicine from the University of Paris with a dissertation titled "Contrib. ? l'étude des suites des fractures de la rotule etc." in 1884.
Expeditions and Society
On behalf of the French government, he conducted expeditions to Iceland and the Faroe Islands from 1886 to 1887. Upon his return, he became the head of a society dedicated to scientific publishing.
