Biography of Henry Lau
Early LifeHenry Lau was born on May 10, 1973, in Hong Kong. He developed a passion for designing clothes while studying at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1992. In 1995, he obtained a bachelor's degree in fashion design.

Career Beginnings
Lau started his career by creating costumes for local singers and celebrities such as Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Jay Chow, and Hacken Lee. In 1996, he joined a fashion house where he focused on designing high-class clothing for Japan and Southeast Asia. The following year, Lau established his own studio.

The Rise of 'Spy Theatre'
In 1998, Lau opened his first store, 'Spy Theatre,' in the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district of Hong Kong. Situated in the Rise commercial building, known for its shops, restaurants, and cultural establishments, the store became a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Lau aimed to create fashionable clothing specifically for young and trendy individuals.
Becoming a Prominent Designer
In March 1998, Lau showcased his first collection, which not only brought him success but also transformed the Rise building into one of Hong Kong's most fashionable shopping centers. In October of the same year, Lau gained widespread attention for his 'Spy at Sea' autumn-winter collection, which featured a show held during the day on a busy street, incorporating pedestrians into the performance.
Expanding Influence
In July 1999, Lau presented his latest collection at the Hong Kong Fashion Flash Show for Spring/Summer 2000, as part of the Hong Kong Fashion Week. This collection caught the attention of the successful retail chain 'Joyce Boutique,' which developed the 'Shen' label, making his designs available in their stores.
Collaborations and Global Recognition
In October of the same year, Nokia offered Lau the opportunity to work on the design of their products. In 2000, he created costumes for leading cable television shows, particularly those celebrating the new millennium. Lau continued to impress with his shows, with his collections being hailed as the "most perfect" during the Hong Kong Fashion Week.
In March, Lau was invited to participate in Beijing Fashion Week to present his latest spring-summer collection. He also designed 30 pieces for the well-known diamond mining company 'Debeers' in May 2000. Lau further expanded his reach by collaborating with 'Singapore Motorola' to present his latest collection as part of their advertising campaign for a new phone.
Continued Success and Recognition
In September, Lau opened his second store, followed by a third in Causeway Bay in 2001. He also developed a new concept for the 'A02' store. Lau designed four sets of costumes for Cantonese pop queen Anita Mui's concerts and began selling his collection in Shanghai.
Popular singer Hacken Lee approached Henry Lau to design his entire wardrobe for the award ceremonies in 2003. Lau also became the creator of Hacken's concert costumes that same year. He went on to showcase his collections in Beijing, Sydney, and attend the Australian Fashion Week in May, impressing many international buyers. As a result, Henry Lau's clothing is now sold in Sydney, Kuwait, Dubai, and India.
In October, the first franchised store of Lau opened in Beijing, attracting young Chinese movie stars and artists.
