Blessed Martyr of the Roman Catholic Church
Blessed Władysław Miegoń, a Roman Catholic priest, was a rector of the Higher Seminary in Włocławek, Poland. He is one of the 108 Blessed Polish Martyrs beatified by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Warsaw on June 13, 1999.
Education and Ordination
Miegoń pursued his theological and philosophical studies at the Higher Seminary in Włocławek and the Spiritual Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He was ordained a priest on June 13, 1914.
Academic and Pastoral Work
After World War I, Miegoń studied at the Catholic University of Lublin, where he earned his doctorate in 1922, based on the writings of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Concurrently, he served as a pastor at the pilgrimage center in Licheń. Upon completing his studies, he became the director of a lyceum in Włocławek and taught moral theology at the local seminary.
Persecution and Martyrdom
With the German occupation of Poland in September 1939, Miegoń was arrested by the Gestapo on November 7, 1939. On April 3, 1941, he was interned in the Dachau concentration camp, where he perished in a gas chamber in 1942. His concentration camp number was 24547.
