German Film Actress, Soviet Citizen
Gertrud Dubson was a German film actress who became a Soviet citizen. She was the wife of film director Mikhail Dubson. From 1930 onwards, she resided in Moscow with her husband.
Arrest and Conviction
On June 25, 1941, Gertrud was arrested on suspicion of espionage. On April 8, 1942, the Special Council of the NKVD (Soviet secret police) found her guilty under Article 58-1a and sentenced her to exile in Northern Kazakhstan for five years.
Exile in Kazakhstan
In June 1942, Gertrud arrived at the special settlement of Cholak-Tau in the Dzhambul Oblast of Kazakhstan. She remained there until her release in 1955.
