Ibrahim Zhakhayev: A Legendary Rice Cultivator
Early Life and CareerIbrahim Zhakhayev was born in May 1891 in the Syr-Darya Governorate (present-day Kzylorda Region, Kazakhstan). From a young age, he dedicated his life to cultivating rice, becoming a renowned expert in the field. In 1940, he joined the "Kyzyl-Tu" collective farm in Chiiliysky District, where he embarked on a remarkable journey in rice farming.
Record-Breaking Yields
Zhakhayev experimented with innovative cultivation methods, consistently achieving exceptional yields. Over five decades, he held the world record for the highest rice yield, having harvested an astonishing 172 centners (17.2 tons) per hectare in 1949. During World War II, his team maintained impressive harvests, obtaining 80-90 centners per hectare despite the challenging conditions.
Pioneer and Innovator
Zhakhayev developed a unique rice cultivation technique that increased productivity. He also established a school in the 1950s to share his knowledge and train young rice farmers. His innovative approach played a pivotal role in revolutionizing rice farming practices in Kazakhstan.
