Early Life and Education

Vladislav Lazarevich Blauberg was born on April 7, 1928, in Moscow, Russia. He graduated from the prestigious Moscow State University (MSU) with a degree in philosophy in 1953. He continued his studies at MSU and completed his postgraduate studies in 1956.

Academic Career

After obtaining his doctorate, Blauberg worked for the Lenin District Committee of the Komsomol in Moscow from 1956 to 1958. He then joined the editorial staff of the esteemed "Questions of Philosophy" journal, serving as deputy head of department from 1958 to 1963 and as editor-in-chief from 1963.

Contributions to Systems Research

Blauberg made significant contributions to the field of systems research. In collaboration with V.N. Sadovsky and E.G. Yudin, he established the "Philosophy and Methodology of Systems Research" scientific school. His work focused on the philosophical foundations and methodologies of systems approaches to science.

Leadership in Systems Research

From 1967 to 1978, Blauberg headed the Group and later the Sector of Systems Research at the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences (AN SSSR). In 1978, he became head of the "Systems Approach and Interdisciplinary Research" laboratory at the All-Union Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (VNIISI) of the State Committee for Science and Technology (GKNT).

Doctoral Thesis and Honors

Blauberg defended his doctoral dissertation, titled "Philosophical and Methodological Problems of Systems Research," in 1983. His contributions to systems research were widely recognized, and he was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophical Sciences.

Personal Life

Blauberg was married to the philosopher Irina Blauberg, and they had a daughter, Irina Blauberg, who also pursued a career in philosophy. Vladislav Blauberg passed away on May 7, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of pioneering work in the field of systems research.
