Biography of Igor Cavalera

Igor Graziano Cavalera, born in 1970 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is a Brazilian musician and the founder of the band 'Sepultura'. Growing up in a rock music atmosphere, Igor sat behind the drum kit of the newly formed band at the age of 13, becoming the youngest member of the successful group. In 1986, Sepultura achieved international success when they were accepted in the United States, where they began writing their subsequent albums. One of their albums, 'Beneath The Remains', released in 1989, became a sensation among thrash metal fans, reaching music charts in many countries and gaining commercial success and popularity.

In Europe, the peak of Sepultura's success was their performance at the 'Marquee' club in London. However, by the mid-1990s, serious problems arose within the band. The cause of these problems was Gloria Bujnowski, the band's manager, who also happened to be Max Cavalera's wife. Gloria, who was significantly older than Max, played an active role in the band's affairs and later began dictating her will to the musicians. Igor became the initiator of the revolt against Gloria. After a concert, Igor, along with Andreas Kisser and Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr., handed Gloria a letter, abruptly informing her that her time with Sepultura was over. Naturally, Max Cavalera had to leave the band as well. The publicized split between the Cavalera brothers became a topic of discussion among fans and in the press.

Igor, however, did not hide his involvement in the split and openly expressed his opinion on the matter. He claimed that he and Max had lost their connection and that Gloria’s influence on Max was profound, to the point where Max would speak Gloria's words instead of his own. Despite the split, Igor and the remaining band members continued playing under the name Sepultura. However, Igor left the band in 2006 due to creative disagreements.

In the same year, the conflict between Igor and Max was resolved, and the brothers reconciled. Igor joined Max's project called 'Soulfly'. To the delight of fans, both brothers participated in the 'Cavalera Conspiracy' project in 2008. Igor has been married twice. Together with his second wife Laima Leyton, he formed a DJ hip-hop-electro project called 'Mixhell', which was unexpected for their previous fans. When asked about what his fans thought of this new project, Igor responded, "I don't know. I like doing it because it's extreme for me. My drums in 'Mixhell' are very energetic. It's just very different from what I do in 'Conspiracy'. Even when I play metal, I always try to find something new. I've never stuck to one style. I've always been open to experimentation."
