Early Life and EducationVasyl Hrytsak was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on October 19, 1961. In 1983, he graduated with honors from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Career in the Prosecutor's Office
From 1983 to 2003, Hrytsak worked in the prosecutor's office, holding various positions:
1983-1987: Investigator and Senior Investigator, Leningrad District Prosecutor's Office, Kyiv
1987-1993: Prosecutor, Deputy Head of Division for Supervision of National Security, State Border, and Customs Laws, Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine
1993-2000: Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor General for Special Assignments and Head of the International Legal Relations Department
2000-2002: Head of the International Legal Relations, Extradition, and Powers of Attorney Department, Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine
Service in the Security Service of Ukraine
Hrytsak joined the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in February 2004 as Deputy Chairman. From September 2005 to December 2006, he served as Chairman of the SBU, attaining the rank of Colonel General.
