Iñaki Urdangarin Liebaert, a former Spanish handball player, is known for his successful career in the sport and his marriage to Infanta Cristina, the youngest daughter of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía of Spain.
Sporting Career
Born in Zumárraga, Basque Country, Urdangarin began his professional handball career at the age of 18. He played for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national handball team.
With FC Barcelona, Urdangarin achieved remarkable success, including:

Education and Post-Career Activities
Alongside his sporting career, Urdangarin pursued higher education. He graduated from the University of Barcelona with a degree in Business Management. He also studied at the School of Administration and Business Management in Barcelona, obtaining a degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Business Administration.
After retiring from handball, Urdangarin became a member of the Spanish National Olympic Committee in 2001 and served as its first vice-president from 2004. He also held leadership positions in the marketing company Octagon Esedos and the Noos Institute, which specialized in sports sponsorship research.
Family and Royal Title
On October 4, 1997, Urdangarin married Infanta Cristina in a ceremony held at the Barcelona Cathedral. They have four children, all of whom have the title of Grandee of Spain. Upon their marriage, Urdangarin and his wife were given the title of Duke and Duchess of Palma de Mallorca.
Controversy and Title Stripping
In 2015, King Felipe VI stripped Infanta Cristina and Urdangarin of their royal titles following their involvement in a corruption scandal.
