Ines Ayala

Inés Ayala was born in Spain and pursued a double major in Spanish Language and Literature and English Language at the University of Zaragoza (1975-1982). She subsequently taught Spanish literature at the same university (1980-1990). Later, she earned a degree in Law from the University of Zaragoza (1994-1995) and studied at the Free University of Brussels (1995-1997). In the early 2000s, she obtained additional training in teaching Spanish to foreign learners from the University of Alcalá (2002-2004).
Political Career
In 1984, Ayala joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and became a member of the party's regional governing body in Aragon, focusing on women's issues. She served as a coordinator for the UGT trade union in Asturias (1989-1990) and later as a social affairs advisor for UGT.
Ayala's political engagement extended beyond local boundaries. She served as an expert on social isolation issues for the European Socio-Economic Committee (1990-1994) and for the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment (1995-1997). She then worked as a political advisor for the Party of European Socialists from 1997 to 2004.
In 2004 and 2009, Ayala was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). She was part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group and served on the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Committee on Budgetary Control. She also participated in the Committee on Petitions from 2004 to 2009.
Death and Legacy
Inés Ayala passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 67. Her contributions to Spanish politics and her work at the European level left a lasting legacy.
