Ióne Belarra: Spanish Psychologist, Politician, and Minister
Early Life and EducationIóne Belarra was born on September 25, 1987, in Pamplona, Spain. She earned a psychology degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid, a master's degree in educational psychology, and was a second-year doctoral candidate in education, development, and learning.
Career before Politics
Belarra worked with the Spanish Red Cross, the Spanish Commission for Aid to Refugees (CEAR), the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the Autonomous University of Madrid, and SOS Racismo.
Entry into Politics
In November 2014, Belarra was elected to Podemos's State Citizen's Council. In the December 2015 parliamentary elections, she was elected as a member of the Congress of Deputies for the constituency of Navarre. She served on the Commission for International Cooperation for Development from July 2020.
Government Appointments
On January 15, 2020, Belarra was appointed State Secretary for Agenda 2030 in the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030. On March 31, 2021, she became Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, succeeding Pablo Iglesias, who resigned to run in the Madrid Assembly elections.
