Early Life and Training
Ionel Manciu was born on April 26, 1993, into a musical family in Tiraspol, Moldova. He grew up in Chisinau, where he began violin lessons at age seven under the tutelage of Tamara Kaftanat. He continued his studies at the Ciprina Porumbescu Lyceum in Chisinau with Galina Buinovskaia.
Breakthrough Performances
Manciu made his debut as a soloist with the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of Moldova and performed with the "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestras in Bucharest and Iasi. He has also collaborated with the Lviv Chamber Orchestra, the Porin Chamber Orchestra in Finland, and many others.
International Acclaim
In 2012, Manciu received a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he studied under Professor David Takeno. Since then, he has performed extensively both domestically and internationally, gracing the stages of prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Barbican Hall, Casa da Música, Wigmore Hall, Mozarteum, and the Romanian Athenaeum.
The Mithras Trio
Manciu is a founding member of the Mithras Trio, a piano trio that has achieved remarkable success. The trio has won first prizes at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, Royal Overseas League Competition, Cavatina International Chamber Music Competition, and St. James' Palace Chamber Music Competition. They were also recipients of the Royal Philharmonic Society's Music Award.
Solo and Orchestral Engagements
Manciu performs as a soloist, with chamber ensembles, and with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. He has held residencies as the BBC 3 New Generation Artist, the Kirckman Concert Society Young Artist, the Countess of Munster Artist, and the YCAT Finalist.
Awards and Recognition
Manciu has received numerous awards at international competitions, including the "Eugen Coca" Prize in Moldova, "Remember Enescu," "Paul Constantinescu," and "Ion Voicu" in Romania, "Mykhailo Strikhar" in Ukraine, "Nedyyalka Simeonova" in Bulgaria, "Delphic Games" in Moldova and Belarus, "M.A.G.I.C." and "Vasco Abadjiev" in Bulgaria.
