Education and Early Career

Irina Keruchenko is a renowned Russian theater director who completed her education in various institutions. In 1993, she graduated from the Musical Pedagogical Department of the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky, specializing in elementary education. Two years later, she earned another degree from the Minsk State Linguistic University, majoring in German. Her pursuit of theater direction led her to the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, where she studied from 1995 to 2000 at the Theater Faculty. In 2005, she graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School (MKhAT) in the directing group of Kama Ginkas.

Collaboration with Kama Ginkas

During her time at MKhAT, Irina Keruchenko played an integral role in Kama Ginkas's play "Dreams of Exile," which premiered in 2003 at the Moscow Youth Theater (MTYuZ).

Independent Directing Career

In June 2004, Irina Keruchenko directed her first independent play, "Phantom Pains," based on Vasily Sigarev's script. The production premiered at MKhAT and the Theater.doc in Moscow. It gained international recognition and participated in prestigious festivals, including the "Baltic House" in Saint Petersburg, "Premières" in Strasbourg, "Mettre en Scène" in Rennes, and "Scènes Étrangères" in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France. Her play "Hedda Gabler," based on Henrik Ibsen's work, won the "Best Performance" award at the "Norwegian Play on the Moscow Stage" festival in 2006. "The Cripple of Inishmaan," staged at the Meyerhold Center in Moscow in 2006, was invited to the International Theater Festival in Sibiu, Romania. Her adaptation of Yuri Klavdiev's "I Am a Machine Gunner," premiered at the Center for Dramaturgy and Directing in Moscow, received the Moscow Komsomolets Theater Award in 2007.

Collaboration with Dostoevsky

Irina Keruchenko has a special affinity for the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. Her production of "The Meek," based on Dostoevsky's novella, premiered at MTYuz in Moscow in 2009. It won the "Best Male Role" award at the Golden Mask National Theater Festival and participated in international festivals like "Baltic House" in Saint Petersburg and Stage Finland in Helsinki. She directed "Dream of a Ridiculous Man," also based on Dostoevsky's work, at the Alexandrinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg in 2012.
