Early Life and Education
Irina Vasilyeva was born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. She began her musical journey at the age of 18, graduating from the Dushanbe Music School in 1988. In 1993, Vasilyeva completed her studies in composition from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory under the guidance of Professor S. M. Slonimsky.
Vocal Training and Early Career
Vasilyeva pursued her studies in vocal performance, graduating from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1999. Under the tutelage of Associate Professor E. K. Perlasova, she honed her vocal abilities and embarked on a professional career as a soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre Academy in 1999.
International Recognition
Vasilyeva's talent gained recognition at international competitions. In 1997, she participated in the 17th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition. The following year, she shone at the 2nd International Sergey Rachmaninoff Competition. Her performance as the Countess in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" in the Conservatory's Opera Studio further propelled her career.
Debut at the Mariinsky Theatre
In 1999, Vasilyeva established herself as a renowned performer on the Mariinsky Theatre stage. She made her debut as Velgunda (Rheingold's Daughter) in the premiere of Richard Wagner's "Das Rheingold" under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
Awards and Accolades
Vasilyeva's exceptional vocal abilities earned her accolades and awards. In 1999, she became a diploma holder of Elena Obraztsova's international competition in Saint Petersburg. Her performance in "Rigoletto" won her the laurel at the international competition in Verona.
Concert Appearances
Alongside her operatic career, Vasilyeva is an active concert performer. In 2000, she received a special diploma for her outstanding rendition of a 20th-century composition at the 4th International Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singers Competition.
Collaborations and Masterclasses
Vasilyeva has collaborated with renowned musicians. In 2001, she performed as part of Renata Scotto's masterclass. Additionally, she shared the stage with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Hall, performing the role of Parasha in Igor Stravinsky's "Mavra."
Solo Performances and Recordings
Vasilyeva's solo performances have captivated audiences. In 2003, she held a two-part solo concert at Tsarskoye Selo. Her vocal artistry has also been captured on multiple compact discs, preserving her performances for future generations.
