Irina Vilde: Ukrainian Soviet Writer
Irina Vilde was a Ukrainian Soviet writer, known for her novels and stories about the fates of women. She was born into the family of Ukrainian writer and educator D. Makohon. In 1932, she graduated from Lviv University. From 1930 to 1939, Vilde published stories and narratives about the lives of the Western Ukrainian intelligentsia, bourgeoisie, and youth. After the reunification of Western Ukrainian territories with the Ukrainian SSR, she continued to explore familiar themes of family in bourgeois society in a new way, as seen in her novel "Adult Children" (1939).
Notable Work: "The Richin Sisters"
Vilde's best-known work is the novel "The Richin Sisters" (parts 1-3, 1958-1960), which was awarded the Taras Shevchenko literary prize in 1965. The novel provides a multi-dimensional panorama of life in Galicia during the years of Polish occupation, as well as the struggle of progressive forces against social and national oppression, and fascism.

Irina Vilde was honored with the Order of the Badge of Honor for her contributions to literature. She is remembered as a talented writer who portrayed the lives and experiences of women in Ukrainian society.
