Isa Aliyev: A Distinguished Economist and Academician
Early Life and EducationIsa Aliyev, an eminent Azerbaijani scholar, was born on October 8, 1953, in Galaaser, Armenia. He completed his secondary education in 1970 and subsequently pursued a degree in Political Economy at the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy named after D. Bunyatzadeh from 1970 to 1975. In 1975, he commenced his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS).
Military Service and Academic Career
Aliyev served in the military from 1976 to 1977. Upon completing his service, he resumed his academic endeavors at ANAS. In 1982, he successfully defended his dissertation and obtained a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree in Economic Theory. In 2005, he achieved the pinnacle of his academic career by earning his Doctor of Economic Sciences degree. His doctoral dissertation focused on "Improving the Economic Management Mechanism in the Agricultural Sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
Director of the Institute of Economics
Dr. Aliyev currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Economics at ANAS. In this capacity, he leads a team of researchers dedicated to advancing economic theory and policy. Under his guidance, the Institute has made significant contributions to the understanding of national economic development, agricultural management, and contemporary economic issues.
Contributions to Economic Research
Aliyev has authored over 130 scholarly publications, including six individual and eight collective monographs. His contributions span various areas of economics, including the formation and modernization of the Azerbaijani economy, agricultural sector management, and theoretical economic perspectives. His work has earned him recognition as a leading economist both within and outside Azerbaijan.

As a dedicated mentor, Aliyev has supervised the completion of six PhD dissertations, fostering the next generation of economic scholars.
