Isabella's Birth and Diagnosis
On the 20th week of gestation, Charlotte discovered a rare birth defect in her unborn child, known as encephalocele. Isabella's brain had protruded through an opening in the back of her skull. The news devastated the family and they prepared for the worst, including the possibility that Isabella would be severely disabled or even die.

Urgent Cesarean and Surgery
Charlotte had an emergency cesarean section at a specialized hospital in Minnesota, eight hours from home. Isabella was born a month premature. Days later, she underwent a life-saving surgery to remove the occipital sac and relocate a small portion of her brain back into her skull. Despite initial concerns about Isabella's future development, her parents were relieved to learn that the surgical intervention had been largely successful.

Isabella's Progress and Milestones
Isabella has defied all odds and is now a thriving four-year-old. She has met all her developmental milestones, including walking and talking, and is now attending preschool. After two additional surgeries to correct vision problems at ages two and three, Isabella is enjoying her life as a normal child.

Encephalocele and Its Impact
Encephalocele is a protrusion of brain tissue encased in a sac. It occurs when the neural tube that forms the brain and spinal cord fails to close completely during early pregnancy. It affects approximately one in every 10,000 babies born in the United States each year.

Isabella's Resilience and Future
Isabella's incredible journey has been marked by resilience and hope. Her parents are eternally grateful for her life and the love she brings to their family. Despite the challenges she has faced, Isabella exudes joy and determination, inspiring others with her unwavering spirit.
