He excelled in school and studied world history at Arizona State University.
Sports Career
While Mustafa had a love for learning, he also had a passion for sports. He tried his hand at various sports in school, including basketball and track and field. After high school, he pursued a career in American football, hoping to secure a sports scholarship. He initially joined the legendary Moorpark College football team but eventually had to leave due to his performance. He played for the Arizona State University team but struggled to make an impact. Despite his love for sports, Mustafa began considering a career in acting during his time at university.
Acting Career
Following the advice of his sports agent, Mustafa decided to try his luck in the National Football League (NFL). Although he signed with the 'Tennessee Oilers' team, his career in the league was limited to playing in training squads. In 1998, he played for the 'Barcelona Dragons' in the NFL Europe. Mustafa continued to play in training squads for professional football teams but never made it to the regular season. After a training camp with the 'Seattle Seahawks,' he made the decision to leave sports and pursue a career in television.
Despite lacking significant acting experience or talent, Mustafa landed small roles in commercials and TV series. His breakthrough came unexpectedly when he starred in a series of commercials for 'Old Spice.' The commercials, starting with 'The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,' went viral and brought immense success to both Mustafa and the company. The sales of 'Old Spice' skyrocketed, and the advertising campaign lasted for several months, featuring around 10 commercials.
Personal Life
Isaiah Mustafa is a fan of comics and named his daughter after the main character in the Batman series. He enjoys watching the animated series 'The Venture Bros' and is a passionate fan of hockey, rooting for his university team, the 'Arizona State Sun Devils.' Mustafa hosted the 'Funniest Commercials of the Year' award ceremony for two consecutive years and also appeared on the show 'Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld' multiple times.
