Biography of Isidro Langara
Isidro Langara was a Spanish football player, known as a forward. Born on May 25, 1912, in Pasajes, Gipuzkoa province, Langara's name is associated in Russia with the legendary Basque team's tour in 1937. The Basques won almost all matches against the strongest Soviet clubs, and Langara was one of the leaders of their team. He played for the Spanish national team from 1932 to 1936, scoring 17 goals in 12 matches. His first match was on April 24, 1932, against Yugoslavia in Oviedo, and his last match was on May 3, 1936, against Switzerland in Bern.
Langara achieved many accomplishments throughout his career. He was the top scorer in the Spanish championships in 1934, 1935, and 1936, as well as the top scorer in the Argentine championship in 1940 and the Mexican championship in 1946. He won the Spanish championship in 1945 and participated in the 1934 World Cup. Langara was also part of the Basque team that played matches in the Soviet Union in 1937.
Langara's career started in his hometown of Pasajes, where he played for the "Bildur Gucci" school team. He then joined the "Esperanza" team in San Sebastian at the age of 16. After serving in the military, he played for the "Tolosa" team in Gipuzkoa. In 1931, he joined "Oviedo," which later became "Real Oviedo" after the proclamation of the Spanish Republic. Langara's talent and goal-scoring abilities were quickly recognized, and he was called up to the national team.
In 1937, Langara joined the Basque team called "Euskadi" and embarked on a tour of Europe, including matches in the Soviet Union. He was highly regarded in Latin American football and eventually moved to Mexico, where he played for the "Selección Vasca" and later joined "Club Atlético San Lorenzo" in Argentina. In Argentina, he became a beloved player and achieved great success.
After the war ended in Europe, Langara returned to Spain and rejoined "Real Oviedo" in 1946. He continued to excel, earning the top scorer title in the Spanish championship for a third time. In 1948, at the age of 36, Langara announced his retirement from professional football and moved to Mexico, where he focused on his restaurant business.
In 1982, Langara was honored by the Spanish Football Federation during the World Cup in Spain. He spent the rest of his life in his homeland, passing away in Oviedo in 1992 at the age of 80. Langara's remarkable career and achievements made him one of the greatest football players of his time.
