Early Life and Education

Israfel Ashurly was born on January 16, 1969, in Baku, Azerbaijan. He graduated from Baku Energy Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.

Business Career

In 1991, Ashurly founded the company "Insol," which specialized in installing and launching telecommunications equipment. He became involved in mountaineering after the establishment of Insol.

Mountaineering Achievements

Ashurly's mountaineering journey began with a trekking expedition around Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas in 2000. After this experience, he went on to conquer some of the world's most challenging peaks:

- 2001: Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in Africa

- 2002: Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m) in Australia
- 2003: Mount Elbrus (5,642 m) in Europe
- 2004: Mount Aconcagua (6,962 m) in South America
- 2005: Mount McKinley (6,194 m) in North America
- 2005: Mount Vinson (4,892 m) in Antarctica
- 2007: Mount Everest (8,848 m) in Asia
International Mountaineering Roles

Ashurly held several prominent positions in international mountaineering organizations:

- Secretary of the Ice-Climbing Commission (2010-2017) of the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation)

- President of the Youth Commission (2012-2016) of the UIAA

- President of the Azerbaijan Mountaineering Federation (2010-2016)

- Member of the Presidium of the Euro-Asian Mountaineering and Climbing Association (EAMA) (since 2011)

- International category judge in ice climbing

Polar Expeditions

In addition to his mountaineering accomplishments, Ashurly embarked on polar expeditions:

- 2009: Reached the North Pole

- 2009: Double ascent of Khan Tengri (7,010 m) and Peak Pobeda (7,439 m) in the Tien Shan mountains

Awards and Honors

For his mountaineering achievements, Ashurly received the "Taragqi" ("Progress") medal on March 4, 2009. He became the first Azerbaijani to conquer Himalayan eight-thousanders (Everest and Kanchenjunga), the first Azerbaijani member of the "Seven Summits" club, the first "Snow Leopard," and the first Azerbaijani to reach the North Pole.
