Early Life and Service
Birth and ChildhoodIvan Kuzmich Mozgovoi was born on August 28, 1911, in the village of Luchki, now Prokhorovsky district, Belgorod region, Russia. His parents were peasants, and he attended elementary school in his hometown.
Military Service
In 1930, Mozgovoi joined the Soviet Army and served until 1932. He was drafted again in 1941. From August 1944, he fought on the front lines.
Heroic Defense at Banhida Station
The BattleIn January 1945, Mozgovoi and a group of soldiers found themselves encircled in a house at Banhida Station in Hungary. Despite being surrounded by enemy forces, they fought back with determination.
Personal Bravery
Mozgovoi, as a machine-gunner, played a crucial role in repelling the enemy's attacks. He destroyed a tank and killed more than 20 German soldiers, contributing significantly to their victory.
Post-War Life and Recognition
Demobilization and WorkIn 1945, Mozgovoi was demobilized and returned to civilian life. He worked at a factory in Rubtsovsk, and later in a sovkhoz (collective farm) in the village of Bolek, Kazakhstan.
Awards and Honors
Mozgovoi's extraordinary bravery was recognized with the Gold Star Medal of the Hero of the Soviet Union on June 29, 1945. He also received the Order of Lenin and various medals.
Legacy
Ivan Kuzmich Mozgovoi died on April 18, 1983, in the village of Bolek. His heroic actions at Banhida Station remain a testament to the courage and determination of the Soviet soldiers who fought in World War II.
