Biography of Ivan Emelianenko
Ivan Nikiforovich Emelianenko was born on March 27, 1920, in the village of Preobrazhenie in the Orehovskiy district of the Zaporozhye region. He completed 8 years of secondary school in 1937. In 1941, he joined the Naval Fleet. After completing his training in the Reserve Aviation Regiment of the Naval Air Force, he was sent to the Red Banner Baltic Fleet.
War Hero
Ivan Emelianenko became a participant of the Great Patriotic War in 1942. On August 17, 1944, as the commander of the 21st Fighter Aviation Regiment, he engaged in combat with enemy aircraft over the city of Palanga. After exhausting all ammunition, Emelianenko resorted to ramming one of the enemy planes. He successfully landed his damaged aircraft back at his base. Throughout the war, Emelianenko completed 415 successful combat sorties, engaged in 47 aerial battles, and personally shot down 12 enemy planes and 10 planes as part of a group. He was wounded twice during his service.
Post-War Service and Honors
After the war, Ivan Emelianenko served in the Black Sea Fleet. On May 30, 1958, Major I.N. Emelianenko retired due to illness. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, Order of the Red Banner (twice), Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree, Order of the Red Star, and numerous medals for his bravery and achievements during the war.
Personal Life
Ivan Emelianenko visited his homeland in Ukraine on leave only in 1945. He returned to his regiment with his charming young wife from the same region. In his post-war years, he lived in the city of Orehovo in Zaporozhye.
Ace Pilot
During the war, Ivan Emelianenko achieved the status of an ace pilot. He was the fourth pilot in his regiment to engage in a ramming attack during an aerial battle. He ended the war with a total of 12 personal victories and 10 group victories, having engaged in 47 aerial battles and completing 415 combat sorties.
