Early Life and Education

Ioann Korolkov was born in the village of Stol'bchye, Oryol Governorate, in the family of a priest, Nikolai Ivanovich Korolkov. He completed his education at the Oryol Diocesan Seminary (1865) and the Kiev Theological Academy (1869).

Academic Career

Teacher and Inspector

On July 21, 1869, Korolkov began his tenure as a teacher at the Saratov Theological Seminary. A year later, on August 27, 1870, he moved to the Chernigov Theological Seminary as a teacher. He subsequently became Inspector of the Kiev Theological Academy and Extra-Ordinary Professor of Greek Language (from 1873).

Professor and Scholar

Korolkov taught at the Academy until 1916. He was a prolific writer of academic works on pedagogy, philosophy, and theology. His most notable research project focused on the "Ladder of Divine Ascent" by John Climacus, Korolkov's heavenly patron saint. Although he did not complete this study, the manuscript of his work has been preserved.

Priesthood and Church Service

In 1895, Korolkov was ordained a priest at the Andreevskaya Church in Kiev. In 1896, he was appointed Dean of the newly consecrated Vladimirovsky Cathedral. He remained in this position until at least 1919.

The Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine holds a collection of Professor Korolkov's personal papers and correspondence. These documents provide valuable insights into his life and academic work.
