Biography of Ivan Mavrov
Dr. Ivan Mavrov is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and the Director of the Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences (1977-2009). He was also the Head of the Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases at the Kharkiv Academy of Postgraduate Education (1984-2009).
Early Life and Education
Ivan Mavrov was born in Mariupol. In 1960, he graduated from the Donetsk Medical Institute.
Medical Career
From 1960 to 1977, Dr. Mavrov worked as the Chief Physician of a rural district hospital, a dermatovenereologist, the Head of the Dermatovenereological Department, the Chief Physician of the City Skin and Venereal Dispensary, and the Head of the City Health Department.
Contributions to Dermatology and Venereology
Dr. Ivan Mavrov is the founder of a scientific school and the editor-in-chief of the journal "Dermatology and Venereology." He has received 35 patents and 19 author's certificates for invention. Under his guidance, 8 doctoral and 37 candidate dissertations have been successfully defended.
He has dedicated himself to studying sexually transmitted diseases, exploring the morphological and genetic characteristics of venereal infections, investigating the functions and changes of cell membranes in skin and venereal diseases, developing diagnostic test systems and automated laboratory complexes, and conducting medical-ecological, medical-mathematical, and medical-social research.
Dr. Mavrov has published over 350 scientific papers on various aspects of dermatology and venereology, including 12 monographs. His notable works include "Urogenital Chlamydiosis" (1983), "Treatment and Prevention of Gonococcal Infection" (1984), "Microcirculation in Dermatoses" (1985), "Contact Infections Transmitted Sexually" (1989), "Sexually Transmitted Diseases" (1994, 2002), "HIV Infection: Current Issues in Clinic, Diagnosis, Epidemiology, and Prevention" (1994), "Herpes Virus Infection" (1998), and "Human Qualities and Human Relations" (2005).
Dr. Mavrov has also authored the main sections of the manuals "Venereal Diseases" (1991) and "Standardization of Laboratory Research Methods in Sexually Transmitted Infections" (2001), as well as reference books such as "Rational Diagnosis and Treatment in Dermatology and Venereology" (2007), "Fundamentals of Diagnosis and Treatment in Dermatology and Venereology" (2008), and "Studies on Diagnosis and Treatment in Dermatology and Venereology" (2009).
Public Involvement and Recognition
In addition to his extensive scientific, educational, and medical work, Dr. Ivan Mavrov has been actively involved in various professional organizations. He served as the Chairman of the Problem Commission of the Ministry of Health and the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences in Dermatology and Venereology, the Chairman of the Specialized Council for the Defense of Doctoral Dissertations, and the Vice President of the Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Cosmetologists of Ukraine. He was also honored as an honorary member of the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Dermatologists and Venereologists.
Dr. Mavrov was a member of the Scientific Coordination Council for Clinical Medicine of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2005, he was recognized as the "Kharkiv Citizen of the Year" by the Institute of Rating Research of the Assembly of Business Circles of Ukraine. In 2006, he was awarded the diploma and breastplate "Person of the Year 2006" in the category of "Figures of Science and Culture of Ukraine".
