Biography of Ivan Rudnev

Early Life and Education

Ivan Mikhailovich Rudnev was a Soviet Ukrainian pediatrician, author of numerous research papers and textbooks, and the creator of a pediatric school. He was born into the family of renowned pediatric scientist and professor Mikhail Fedorovich Rudnev. Ivan Rudnev graduated from Dnipropetrovsk Medical Institute in 1931.

Career

From 1931 to 1935, he worked as a resident at the children's clinic in Dnipropetrovsk. From 1935 to 1938, he was a graduate student, and from 1938 onwards, he served as an assistant at Dnipropetrovsk Medical Institute. In 1941, he defended his candidate dissertation on "The Use of Streptocid in the Treatment of Purulent Pleurisy in Children." From 1940 to 1950, he worked as a physician at the Lviv Institute of Blood Transfusion, and from 1951, he became the deputy director for scientific work at the Lviv Research Institute for Maternal and Child Health. In 1956, he became the head of the department of faculty pediatrics at Lviv Medical Institute, where he also worked as the dean of the pediatric faculty. In 1962, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Vascular Function in Rheumatism in Children." He served as the head of the department of faculty pediatrics from 1963 to 1965 and hospital pediatrics from 1965 to 1970 at the Kyiv Medical Institute.

Contributions

Ivan Mikhailovich Rudnev was a pioneer in the study of allergic reactions in children. He was one of the first to use glucocorticoids for the treatment of rheumatism in children. His books, "The Use of Glucocorticoids in Children" (Moscow, 1969) and "Practical Cardiology in Childhood" (Kyiv, 1969), became widely known. He created a scientific school and mentored 5 doctors and 19 candidates of science. Some of his notable students include Prof. Sidel'nikov V. M., Prof. Moshchych P. S., Prof. Lasitsa O. I., Prof. Mokhort N. A., Prof. Bezrukov L. A., and Prof. Bagdasarova I. V. He served as the Chief Pediatrician of the Ministry of Health of the Ukrainian SSR from 1962 to 1966.

Awards and Achievements

Ivan Rudnev was a laureate of the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in 1979. He was the initiator and first editor of the textbook "Children's Diseases" (Kyiv, 1973, 1975, 1984).
