Birth and Lineage

Pavel Nikolayevich Klevezal was born on 13th January, 1834 in Tokaryovo, Ryazan Governorate, into a noble family of German origin. His father, Nikolay Yefimovich, had fought in the Napoleonic Wars and served as the leader of the Kasimov district nobility.

Military Service

Pavel joined the Moscow Infantry Regiment as an under-officer on 16th July, 1852. He fought in the Crimean War, participating in battles such as the Battle of the Alma (7th September) and the Siege of Sevastopol (from 19th September). For his bravery during a sortie from Sevastopol, he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, 4th degree, with the inscription "For Courage".

After the War

Pavel retired from the army in 1862 and was appointed as the Kasimov land surveyor. In 1863, he was promoted to lieutenant in the Guards and, due to ill health, retired from service with a pension.

Personal Life

Pavel married Glafira Dmitriyevna Ryкачеva, the daughter of a retired captain-lieutenant, and had two sons (Vladimir and Pyotr) and a daughter (Sofya).

Later Years and Legacy

Pavel passed away in Moscow on 24th November, 1915, and was buried in Tula three days later. His legacy as a hero of the Crimean War continues to be remembered.
