Early Life and Education
Education at the Leipzig ConservatoryGerman composer and musicologist Ivan Knorr was born in Mewe, Prussia. After extensive study, he enrolled at the Leipzig Conservatory under renowned instructors Ignaz Moscheles, Ernst Friedrich Richter, and Carl Reinecke. His time there laid the foundation for his musical career.
Teaching in Kharkiv and Frankfurt
Professorship in KharkivIn 1874, Knorr began delivering lectures on music, and four years later, in 1878, he expanded his teachings to include music theory at the Kharkiv Musical Society in Ukraine.
Return to Germany and Leadership at the Hoch Conservatory
In 1883, Knorr returned to Germany and became a professor at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main. His influence grew, and in 1908, he was appointed Director of the prestigious institution.
