Jack Johnson is an American athlete and professional hockey player. He was born on January 13, 1987, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Early Life and Education
Jack Johnson was born with the full name John Joseph Louis Johnson III. He was introduced to hockey by his father, who also had a passion for the sport and played in one of the university leagues. Like many other hockey stars such as Sidney Crosby, Zach Parise, and Ryan Malone, Johnson attended Shattuck-Saint Mary's Boarding School, known for its hockey, football, and figure skating programs. As a sophomore, he helped the team win the national championship in the 2002-2003 season.
Professional Career
Due to his size and playing style, Jack Johnson is often referred to as the "star tank." His powerful physique combined with his aggressive play attracted the attention of NHL scouts. In the 2005 NHL Draft, he was selected as the third overall pick by the Carolina Hurricanes. However, Johnson couldn't sign a contract at that time because he wanted to finish college.
In September 2006, Johnson was traded to the Los Angeles Kings along with Oleg Tverdovsky in exchange for Tim Gleason and Eric Belanger. He played two seasons for the University of Michigan, which is part of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). During his first year, he set a club record for rookie defensemen in points (32) and penalty minutes (149). The following year, he set a record for goals scored by a defenseman (16) and was awarded "Best Defenseman of the League." His physical attributes and playing style made him a fan favorite during his time at Michigan.
In March 2007, Jack Johnson signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings, and his first NHL game took place on March 29 against the Vancouver Canucks. In his first season in the NHL, Johnson played five games, received 18 penalty minutes, and did not score any points. He earned his first assist in the 2007-2008 season against the Dallas Stars and scored his first goal against the Vancouver Canucks. However, Johnson had to miss half of the season due to a serious shoulder injury, but he eventually returned to the team and earned a spot on the 2010 Olympic team.
