Early CareerHailing from Melbourne, Australia, Jackson Irvine began his professional football journey with his hometown club Melbourne Victory. In 2010, he ventured to Scotland and joined Celtic FC, initially representing their youth team.
Celtic Debut and Loan Spells
Irvine made his Scottish Premiership debut for Celtic on September 1, 2012, replacing Victor Wanyama. He contributed to the team's triumph in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup that season. To gain more playing time, Irvine went on loan to Kilmarnock in 2013, debuting on August 17 against St. Mirren. He scored his first goal for them against Ross County on October 19. Irvine continued his loan stint at Ross County in 2014, debuting on September 13 against Motherwell. He netted his first goal for County on January 1, 2015, against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Ross County eventually acquired Irvine's contract from Celtic in the summer of 2015.
Burton Albion and Hull City
Irvine moved to England in 2016, joining Burton Albion. He made his Championship debut on August 13 against Bristol City and scored his first goal for the club against Sheffield Wednesday on August 16. In 2017, he transferred to Hull City, signing a three-year contract. Irvine's Hull City debut came on August 5 against his former club Burton Albion.
International Career
Irvine represented Australia at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. He debuted for the senior team on October 15, 2013, in a friendly against Canada. Irvine scored his first international goal on March 28, 2017, in a World Cup qualifier against United Arab Emirates. He also participated in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, featuring in matches against Cameroon and Chile.
