Jakob Aljaž: A Multifaceted Slovenian
Jakob Aljaž, a Slovenian theologian and mountaineer, was born in 1845 in Završe beneath Mount Smarna. After completing secondary school in Ljubljana, he went to Vienna to study philosophy but soon switched his focus to theology. From 1889 until his passing in 1927, he served as a priest in Dovje in Upper Carniola.

Aljaž possessed a wide range of talents that earned him respect and prominence throughout his life. As a composer, he expressed his love for his homeland in works like "Triglav," "O My Home and Slovenia," and others.
A Pioneer in Slovenian Mountaineering
Aljaž played a significant role in the development of Slovenian mountaineering. He initiated and aided in the construction of numerous alpine huts in the Triglav area, including "Staniceva," "Triglav," "Chapel on Kredarica," and the "Aljaž Shelter at Vrata."
The Triglav Tower: A Slovenian Icon
Aljaž's most notable achievement was the erection of a small tower on the summit of Mount Triglav. This iconic structure cemented Triglav as a cherished symbol of Slovenian national identity.
