Born on May 19, 1991, in Chicago, Illinois, Jamal Hill's childhood was marked by frequent moves. Relocating to Grand Rapids, Michigan, at age 12, Hill pursued basketball as a student-athlete at Davenport University. His street fights taught him the value of self-defense, but it was a 2009 fight between Anderson Silva and Forrest Griffin that sparked his fascination with martial arts.

Transition to Mixed Martial Arts

Inspired by Silva's performance, Hill began training in MMA. As an amateur, he went undefeated in 11 fights, finishing all of them before the final bell.
