James Adam "Jim" Belushi was born on June 15, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, USA, to Albanian immigrant parents Adam Anastas Belushi and Agnes Demetri Belushi. He grew up in a family with two older siblings, John Belushi and Marian Belushi, and later welcomed a younger brother named Billy. Belushi attended Whitten High School and went on to study at DuPage College before graduating from the University of Southern Illinois in Carbondale with a degree in Speech and Theater Arts.

At the age of 23, Belushi decided to follow in his older brother John's footsteps and pursue a career in acting. His debut role was a small appearance in Brian De Palma's thriller "The Fury" (1978), although he was not credited for the role.
