James Wolfensohn
James Wolfensohn was the ninth president of the World Bank. Born on December 5, 1933, in Sydney, Australia, he was the son of Jewish parents who had immigrated from England to the United States during the Great Depression.
Presidency of the World Bank
Wolfensohn assumed the presidency of the World Bank on July 1, 1995, following a nomination by U.S. President Bill Clinton. In 2000, he was unanimously reappointed by the bank's board of directors for a second five-year term, becoming only the third person to hold the position for two terms after Eugene Black and Robert McNamara.
