Biography of James Andersdown
James Andersdown is an American researcher and entrepreneur known for his skepticism towards paranormal phenomena. He is the head of the non-profit educational organization "The Center for Inquiry" and the founder of the volunteer movement "Independent Investigations Group IIG".
Education and Early Career
Andersdown obtained his education at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, specializing in English language. He worked various jobs from 1982 to 1999, including school teacher, truck driver, limousine driver, artist, hotel clerk, porter, carpenter, and bouncer. Notably, in the late 1970s, Andersdown even competed against a bear for a $500 prize.
In 1992, he moved to Los Angeles, where he took courses at a comedy school and became involved in the film industry. He wrote and directed two short films, "A Day in the Life of Frank Sinatra" and "Dear Father," as well as a play called "Party of 13", which was a secular retelling of the Last Supper. Additionally, Andersdown created a television project called "The Peep Show," which aired around 24 episodes in the mid-1990s. He is currently a leading performer in the rock and roll band "The Heathens."
The Independent Investigations Group IIG
Andersdown launched the Independent Investigations Group IIG project, which focuses on studying various stories of the paranormal from a scientific, skeptical, and rational perspective. The project offers a $100,000 prize to anyone who can demonstrate a paranormal ability under controlled conditions. It has been regarded as a training ground for those interested in debunking supernatural claims, similar to the famous skeptic James Randi.
Andersdown regularly speaks at conferences and events for professional skeptics, tirelessly exposing magicians and psychics who turn out to be either skilled tricksters or clever frauds. He has appeared on television shows such as "Dr. Phil" to demonstrate that modern beliefs in the paranormal are not far removed from biblical tales, which he also approaches with skepticism.
In 2012, Andersdown joined the judging panel of the popular Ukrainian TV show "Battle of the Psychics." He aimed to bring rational skepticism to the project, which he believed was lacking in similar programs.
