Blessed Jan Balicki

Early Life and Priesthood

Jan Balicki was born in 1869 in Leżajsk, Poland. After completing his studies at the Seminary in Przemyśl in 1892, he was ordained a priest. He served as a vicar in the parish of Polna for fifteen months before continuing his theological education at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Theological Career

Upon returning to Poland, Balicki taught dogmatics at the seminary in Przemyśl. He also served as prefect and eventually rector of the seminary. In 1928, he fell gravely ill and had to step down from his duties as rector.

Spiritual Leadership

Despite his illness, Balicki gained renown among the faithful as a spiritual director and confessor. He became known for his deep faith, humility, and compassion.

Death and Beatification

Jan Balicki passed away in Przemyśl on March 15, 1948. On August 18, 2002, he was declared Blessed by Pope John Paul II. His feast day is celebrated on March 15.
