Jana Černochová: Early Life and Education

Jana Černochová was born in Prague on October 26, 1973. After graduating from high school in 1992, she pursued a banking career. In 1996, she completed a course in banking and monetary economics at the University of Economics, Prague, Faculty of Finance and Accounting. Later, in 2009, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Applied Law, and in 2011, she obtained a master's degree in international relations from Metropolitan University Prague. Additionally, she is proficient in English, Polish, and Russian.

Political Career

Jana Černochová joined the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) in 1997. In 1998, she was elected to the Prague 2 City Council, serving as deputy mayor until 2006. From 2006 to 2010, she held the mayorship of Prague 2.

In 2010, Černochová was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. In 2012, she resigned from the Chamber of Deputies Security Committee when her husband, Martin Červíček, was appointed Police President of the Czech Republic. She was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013 and became the First Vice-President of the ODS parliamentary group in November of the same year.

Černochová remained Mayor of Prague 2 from 2014 to 2018 and led the ODS in Prague for the 2017 Parliamentary Elections. She retained her seat in Parliament with 12,426 votes.

In 2018, Černochová defended her post as Mayor of Prague 2 and was elected for a fourth time in November 2018. She stepped down from the mayoral position in December 2021 upon her appointment as Czech Minister of Defense, though she retained her membership in the Education Committee.

In the 2021 Parliamentary Elections, Černochová received over 35,500 votes and was re-elected to Parliament. In November 2021, she was nominated by the ODS to be Minister of Defense in the government formed by Petr Fiala, comprising the SPOLU and Pirates and Mayors coalitions. President Miloš Zeman appointed her to the position in December 2021.

As Minister of Defense, Černochová aims to increase the Czech military budget from 85 billion Czech crowns in 2020 to 140 billion Czech crowns to meet NATO commitments.

Political Views

Jana Černochová is a staunch critic of radical Islam and immigration into the European Union. She has called for a reevaluation of EU migration policies and warned of the threat posed by radical Islam. She has also expressed concern about Turkey's actions in Syria and condemned the Erdogan regime for destabilizing the EU by allowing migrants to cross into Greece.

Černochová supports Israel and its policies. She has condemned statements made by Czech Culture Minister Lubomír Zaorálek that compared Israeli annexation plans for West Bank settlements to the fate of Czechoslovakia in the 20th century.

Awards

On August 23, 2022, Jana Černochová was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, Second Class by Ukraine for her support of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
