Ilan Shor: Moldovan Politician and Businessman
Early Life and Business CareerIlan Shor, a Moldovan politician and businessman of Jewish descent, made his mark in various industries. He ran companies such as "Dufremol," a duty-free shop network, and owned the football club Milсами.
Political Forays
In 2014, Shor became chairman of the Bancа de Economii S.A. board and subsequently joined the board of the International Chișinău Airport. He stepped into politics in 2015, running as a candidate for mayor of Orhei and securing the position with a landslide victory. In 2016, he became chairman of the "Equality" socio-political movement.
Parliamentary Term and Legal Challenges
During the 2019 parliamentary elections, Shor won a seat as a deputy from both the Party of "ȘOR" national list and constituency No. 19. However, in 2017, he was convicted in the "billion dollar theft" case, receiving a 7-year and 6-month sentence that was contested and remains under appeal.
Personal Life
Shor's father, Miron, passed away in 2005. Since 2011, Ilan Shor has been married to singer Jasmin (Sara Shor). They have two children: daughter Margarita (born 2012) and son Miron (born 2016).
