Ian Bond: A Distinguished Military and Diplomatic Career
Early Life and EducationIan Bond was born in the United Kingdom. In 1972, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Nottingham. He subsequently pursued military training, graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1973.
Military Service in the United Kingdom
After graduating from Sandhurst, Bond served as a Brigadier General in the British Armed Forces. He also held diplomatic positions, representing the United Kingdom as a Military Attaché in the Baltic countries.
Director of the Latvian Security Service
In 2003, Ian Bond was appointed Director of the Latvian State Security Service, known as the "Bureau for the Protection of the Constitution." He served in this capacity until May 2013.
Honors and Recognition
For his service to Latvia, Bond was awarded the Cross of Recognition in 2013. This honor acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the country.
Advisory Roles
Following his tenure as Director of the Security Service, Bond served as an External Advisor to the Latvian Minister of Defense on international security and information technology from June 2013 onward.
Civic Engagement
In December 2013, Ian Bond became the Chairman of the Public Commission tasked with investigating the tragedy in Zolitūde, Latvia. However, he resigned from this position on December 18th.
