A Life in Politics and Culture
Jean-Jacques Aillagon is a French politician and cultural administrator who has held prominent positions in both spheres.
Early Career
Aillagon began his career as a high school teacher in the Corrèze department from 1972 to 1976. Subsequently, he served as an administrator at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris from 1982 to 2002, eventually becoming its chairman.
Minister of Culture and Communications
In 2002, Aillagon was appointed Minister of Culture and Communications, making him the first openly gay person to hold a ministerial position in the French government. He served in this role until 2004.
Director-General of TV5 Monde
After leaving government, Aillagon became Director-General of TV5 Monde, the largest satellite television channel in the world, in 2005.
Presidential Appointments
Aillagon was appointed President of the Palace of Versailles by President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007.
