Early Life and EducationBorn into a respected Haitian family, Jean-Max Bellerive left his homeland as a young man to pursue education in prestigious institutions across Europe. He earned a degree in political science and international relations from renowned universities in Switzerland, France, and Belgium.
Return to Haiti and Early Career
Bellerive returned to Haiti in 1986, shortly before the overthrow of Jean-Claude Duvalier's dictatorship. He joined the government under Prime Minister Jacques-Édouard Alexis, serving as Minister of Planning and External Cooperation.
Appointment as Prime Minister
On October 30, 2009, Bellerive was nominated by President René Préval to replace Michèle Pierre-Louis, who had been censured by the Senate the previous day. He officially took office on November 11, 2009, as the Prime Minister of Haiti.
