Biography of Jane Muir
Jane Muir, a renowned British fashion designer and creator of numerous collections, was born on July 17, 1928, in London, to a Scottish family. She received her initial education at the Bedford High School for Girls, now known as Dame Alice Harpur School. At the age of fifteen, Jane decided to pursue a career in fashion and left to study in the field.

Throughout her studies, Jane worked to support her mother and siblings. She gained experience as a salesperson at Liberty & Co and collaborated with Jaeger, where she served as a designer. In 1961, she established her own company, giving rise to the brand Jane & Jane. During this time, Jane Muir worked incredibly prolifically, creating clothing for Diana Rigg and later designing costumes for television presenters.

In 1966, the Jane & Jane brand changed its name to Jean Muir Ltd, which further increased the popularity and demand for Jane's clothing. Interestingly, she collaborated with her husband, Harry Lekert, on their own projects. As they had no children, they dedicated their time to creating exceptional collections. In 1995, Jane passed away from an incurable illness, and Harry remarried, eventually having a daughter.
Jane's work was highly valued not only by her numerous fans but also by famous fashion houses and well-known personalities in the fashion industry. The renowned publication "The New York Times" named Jane one of the most influential figures in the fashion world and an advocate of minimalism. She was also honored with the prestigious Minerva Medal by the Society of Designers, which she received three times, in 1964 for the Jane & Jane collection, and later in 1968 and 1979. In 1984, Jane was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
Even today, Jane Muir's contributions are not forgotten. The National Museum of Scotland recently acquired her clothing collection, which is now housed in the National Museums Collection Centre in Granton, Edinburgh.
