Early Life and Comic Book InfluenceJeff Dee, a prominent artist and game designer, was born and raised in Austin, Texas. His artistic style was heavily influenced by his love for comic books.
The Creation of "Villains and Vigilantes"
In the 1970s, as teenagers, Dee and Jack Herman created "Villains and Vigilantes," the first role-playing game with a superhero theme. This groundbreaking game laid the foundation for Dee's career in the industry.
Dungeons & Dragons and Beyond
Dee later contributed to the iconic "Dungeons & Dragons" series, creating iconic illustrations for the "Deities & Demigods" sourcebook. He became part of the first generation of "Dungeons & Dragons" artists who brought fantastical worlds to life with their illustrations.
Foray into Computer Games
Around 1989, Dee shifted his focus to computer games. He served as the art director for "Ultima VII" and worked on various other titles for companies like Origin and Looking Glass Studios.
Simtex and Master of Orion
In the early 1990s, Dee became the art director at Simtex, where he played a key role in the development of critically acclaimed games such as "Master of Orion" and "Master of Magic."
UNIgames and Independent Ventures
