Early Life and Apprenticeship
From a tender age, Ren Fangrong devoted himself to understanding the principles of Daoism and Buddhism under the tutelage of his grandfather, a local elder. At the age of 19, he embarked on a transformative journey to the Dragon Gate Daoist Temple, where he became the disciple of Wang Xilin, the 28th patriarch of the Longmen lineage of Quanzhen school.
Training and Dedication
In 1957, Ren Fangrong continued his spiritual education at Louguantai Temple, studying under Liang Zonghe. Despite the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, which severely damaged Louguantai Temple, Ren Fangrong remained steadfast in his commitment to the temple.
Editorial and Leadership Roles
From 1986 onward, Ren Fangrong assumed the role of editor for the "Chinese Daoism" journal. His exceptional contributions to the field were recognized in 2005, when he was elected as the Chairman of the All-China Association of Daoism.
