Biography of Jennifer Durrant
Jennifer Durrant is an abstract artist who studied at Brighton College of Art from 1959 to 1963 and at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1963 to 1966. During a trip to the United States in 1972, she became fascinated with the works of Pollock, Gorky, Newman, Rothko, Morris, and Smith.
Recognition for Symbolic Resonance
Durrant's works have gained recognition for their symbolic resonance. The abstract forms that distinguish her work often suggest natural processes, yet resist easy definition. Her art is frequently discussed in terms of spirituality.
Participation in "The Journey"
In 1990, Durrant participated in "The Journey: A Search for the Role of Contemporary Art in Religious and Spiritual Life," during which one of her works, "Arrival," was exhibited at Lincoln Cathedral. Reflecting on her art, she stated, "I think painting can be like a mandala—its use can be meditative or contemplative."
