Early Life and Career Beginnings
Jung Jungkook, known mononymously as Jungkook, was born in Busan, South Korea on September 1, 1997, to a professional bowler. Initially, Jungkook aspired to pursue badminton but later gravitated towards art and music, inspired by rapper G-Dragon.
After minimal formal education, Jungkook auditioned for the talent show "Superstar K." Though not successful, he received offers from several entertainment companies, ultimately choosing Big Hit Entertainment, which was grooming future BTS member RM.
Training and Debut
Recognizing his potential, Jungkook received extensive training in choreography, utilizing his height (178 cm) and weight (61 kg). He trained at a ballet studio in Los Angeles, debuted in a music video by 2AM's Jo Kwon, and performed with Glam. Despite his reservations about continuing formal education, Jungkook enrolled in university with his fellow BTS members for online classes.
BTS Member and Solo Projects
In 2013, Jungkook joined BTS as the group's maknae (youngest member). He contributed to their debut single "2 Cool 4 Skool" and received vocal and performance guidance from his seniors. In 2016, he released his solo song "Begin" on the album "Wings," a biographical piece reflecting his childhood and aspirations. His second solo single, "Euphoria," produced by DJ Swivel, became a chart hit in both South Korea and the United States.
Television Appearances and Collaborations
Outside of BTS activities, Jungkook has participated in various television programs, including "Flower Crew," "Celebrity Bromance," and as "Fencing Man" on "King of Mask Singer." He has also collaborated with One Dream, One Korea and performed in a tribute song for victims of the Korean War.
Production and Honors
Jungkook has co-produced numerous BTS tracks and became an honorary director for their "Love Yourself: Answer" concert show in 2018. In the same year, he and BTS were awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the South Korean government. He has also performed with Charlie Puth at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards.
Personal Life: Rumors and Relationships
Jungkook's personal life has been the subject of speculation and rumors. Social media posts have hinted at relationships with BTS member V and CUBE Entertainment trainee Kim Sohyun. He has denied romantic involvement with both individuals.
Current Status and Recognition
As of 2019, Jungkook has reportedly purchased a luxury apartment in Seoul. His success as a BTS member has earned him a prominent ranking in the Hi China Asian celebrity list. He continues to contribute to BTS's music and live performances, further solidifying his status as a global sensation.
