Early Life and Career

Jerry Harrison attended Harvard University, where he met Jonathan Richman. They started playing together in a band, and later Harrison joined The Modern Lovers, which Richman founded in 1971. The Modern Lovers became a popular group in the Boston area, and they were noticed by Stuart Love from Warner Bros. Records. He invited the band to the Intermedia studio in Boston, where they recorded their first professional demo record.

After receiving positive reviews from influential music critics, The Modern Lovers caught the attention of A&M Records. In 1972, Harrison and his bandmates moved to Los Angeles and recorded two demo sessions. However, their popularity skyrocketed on New Year's Eve of the same year when they performed at a concert by the New York Dolls in The Mercer Arts Center. Warner Bros. Records finally signed a full contract with the band, and they began recording their first album.

However, it took three more years for the band to come together and record a complete album. Constant friction and disagreements arose among the members. In 1974, when Warner Bros. Records terminated the contract, Harrison had a falling out with Richman and left the band. He then joined Talking Heads.

Work with Talking Heads and Solo Career

While working with Talking Heads, Jerry Harrison released several solo singles and albums. However, albums such as "The Red and the Black" (1981), "Casual Gods" (1987), and "Walk on Water" (1990) did not achieve significant success. After Talking Heads disbanded in 1991, Harrison embarked on a successful career as a producer. He worked with various bands, including Violent Femmes, The Von Bondies, General Public, Live, Crash Test Dummies, The Verve Pipe, Rusted Root, The Bogmen, Black 47, Of A Revolution, and his most successful project, No Doubt. Recently, Harrison has produced for The Black and White Years, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Bamboo Shoots.

Jerry Harrison's contribution to the new-wave music scene and his successful career as a producer have solidified his status as a prominent figure in the music industry.
