Biography of Jessica Tandy

Jessica Tandy, a renowned actress, was born in London. She received her education at Western University in Ontario, where she studied law and honed her acting skills at the Ben Greta Academy. Tandy made her stage debut in 1929 and won a Tony Award in 1948 for her performance in the play "A Streetcar Named Desire".

Early Career

In 1944, Tandy made her film debut in Fred Zinnemann's thriller "The Seventh Cross". She continued to work in the film industry and gained recognition for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" in 1963. However, her true triumph came in 1989 when she portrayed the lead role in the drama "Driving Miss Daisy", for which she won an Academy Award.

Later Works and Personal Life

Tandy's final film was "The Cemetery Club" directed by Robert Benton and co-starring Paul Newman. She passed away on September 11, 1994, in her home in Easton, Connecticut. Tandy was married to actor Jack Hawkins and later married Hume Cronyn in 1942.
